storia della canzone: “Earth angel” fu registrata per la prima volta dai Penguins alla fine del 1954 con lo stesso autore Belvin come voce guida.
Agli inizi del 1955, questa versione arrivò al 1° posto della classifica Rhythm’n’Blues ed all’8° in quella Best-Selling Singles, vendendo oltre un milione di copie.
Anche la registrazione dei Crew-Cuts, sempre nel 1955, raggiunse l’8° gradino nella Best-Selling Singles.
Altre esecuzioni che entrarono nella classifica americana, furono quelle di Gloria Mann (1955), di Johnny Tillotson (1960) e dei Vogues (1969).

STORIA DELLA CANZONE: scritta e registrata per la prima volta da Marty Robbins nel 1959, la canzone fu pubblicata per la Columbia Records nel 33 giri “Gunfighter ballads and trail songs”. In seguito alla grossa richiesta del pubblico, il brano venne emesso anche su 45 giri alla fine dello stesso anno, diventando un grosso successo mondiale (Columbia 41511): primo posto nelle classifiche Hot 100 e Country con vendita di oltre un milione di copie.
Nel 1960 “El Paso” venne premiata come miglior esecuzione Country & Westerncon il prestigioso Grammy Award.
Da segnalare che era Hank Garland a suonare la chitarra e che la Columbia era riluttante a pubblicarla su singolo perché ritenuta troppo lunga (4’40”).
Nel 1977 lo stesso Robbins registrò una sorta di sequel intitolato “El Paso city” (Columbia 10305).
