ALTRE NOTIZIE: i tre autori Weiss, Peretti e Creatore, si basarono sulla classica composizione francese “Plaisir d’amour” di Giovanni Martini, un compositore vissuto fra la metà del settecento e gli inizi dell’ottocento.
Elvis registrò due versioni di questa canzone: una per il film ed una per la pubblicazione discografica. Il numero di master della versione del film è WPA5-2520, mentre il numero di masterdel film è sempre RO. Il master di questa registrazione è composto dalla takenumero 23 che sarà pubblicata solo nel 1997 all’interno del CD “Blue Hawaii”, nella sua aggiornata edizione.
In Inghilterra, “Can’t help falling in love” fu prima per 4 settimane.
Essa venne premiata dalla RIAA col disco d’oro il 30 marzo 1962.
A partire dall’agosto 1969 fino al suo ultimo concerto di Indianapolis del 26 giugno 1977, Elvis concluse quasi sempre tutti i suoi spettacoli dal vivo con “Can’t help falling in love”.

STORIA DELLA CANZONE: nell’inverno del 1934, Tex Owens era all’undicesimo piano del Pickwick Hotel a Kansas City e stava aspettando di partecipare ad una trasmissione radiofonica della KMBC.
Durante quest’attesa, nel giro di 30’, egli compose questa canzone che registrò egli stesso il 28 agosto dello stesso anno.
Il più grande successo con questo brano lo ebbe Eddy Arnold nel 1955 (RCA 6139) in quanto raggiunse il primo posto della classifica Country vendendo oltre un milione di copie.
Anche Slim Whitman ebbe un buon successo con questa canzone poiché nello stesso anno arrivò fino all’undicesimo posto della medesima classifica con la sua registrazione (Imperial 8281).
Da anni circolano alcune voci secondo le quali Elvis avrebbe cantato in concerto negli anni ’50 “Cattle call” ma fino ad ora questa teoria non è ancora stata suffragata da prove.

CURIOSITÀ: questa canzoncina per bambini venne considerata (dal Colonnelllo Parker…) per il TV Special del 1968, eseguita in un medley iniziale. In seguito, il progetto di quella trasmissione venne preso in mano da Steve Binder e dallo stesso Elvis e cambiarono radicalmente le idee.
La versione del film di “Cotton Candy Land”, ha altri strumenti sovraincisi ed ha un finale più corto.

NOTE: la registrazione del 15 luglio 1970 è una breve prova che Elvis eseguì per “That’s the way is is”. Non era, quindi, un’incisione effettuata per la pubblicazione discografica anche perché Elvis e la band la eseguono brevemente e scherzosamente.
Inoltre Elvis la eseguì in altre tre occasioni dal vivo, praticamente improvvisandole. L’unica versione di queste abbastanza completa è quella del 12 agosto 1973 a Las Vegas, durante il midnight show.
Ad oggi, questa canzone è ancora inedita ufficialmente in ogni forma.

STORIA DELLA CANZONE: il brano venne registrato per la prima volta dallo stesso autore Buck Owens nel 1964 (Capitol 5336).
Due anni dopo Ray Charles portò la canzone al sesto posto della Hot 100ed al quinto nella classifica Rhythm’n’Bluesed addirittura al primo della Easy Listening.
[1]Debutto in classifica: 4 dicembre 1961. Fu la canzone “Peppermint twist” di Joey Dee and the Starliters ad impedirle di comandare la graduatoria. Presenza totale: 14 settimane.
