STORIA DELLA CANZONE: anche altri artisti registrarono questa canzone dopo Elvis, come Cliff Richard nel 1958. Fu, però, Conway Twitty che ebbe un grandissimo successo nel 1960 con questo brano, dopo che lo intitolò “Lonely blue boy”.
Nonostante non appaia nel film “King Creole”, venne regolarmente girata la scena nella quale Elvis canta “Danny”. Egli l’avrebbe eseguita subito dopo “Hard Headed Woman”.

Essa risale al periodo durante il quale prestava servizio militare in Germania a Bad Nauheim, in Goethestrasse. Si tratta, ovviamente, di un’incisione eseguita con un comune apparecchio domestico ma pur sempre di discreta qualità sonora (running time: 3’30”). La registrazione è dell’aprile 1959 ed il numero di master assegnatale dalla RCA è OPA5-8201. Essa fu pubblicata nel 1984 nel box “A golden celebration”.
Negli spettacoli del 1977, Elvis faceva cantare questa canzone dal suo corista Sherrill Nielsen. Inoltre, “Danny boy” venne cantata anche al funerale di Elvis.

“Danny boy” fu registrata da moltissimi cantanti nel corso degli anni:
Ernestine Shumank-Heink (1918), Gracie Fields (1939), The Glenn Miller Orchestra  (1940), Bing Crosby (1943), Conway Twitty (1959, 10° posto nella  Hot 100) e Ray Price (1967, 9° posto nella graduatoria Country), sono solo alcuni nomi di artisti che hanno inciso questo brano.

STORIA DELLA CANZONE: “Dark moon” venne composta da Ned Miller nel 1957. In quello stesso anno, furono eseguite molte versioni di questa canzone ma fu quella di Bonnie Guitar, registrata in aprile, a raggiungere il sesto posto della Hot 100 di Billboard. A poco tempo di distanza, ci fu la registrazione di Gale Storm che finì addirittura quarta.

STORIA DELLA CANZONE: “Don’t be cruel” venne composta da Otis Blackwell nel 1955. Il compositore vendette i diritti di questa canzone il giorno della vigilia di Natale dello stesso anno alla Shalimar Music per soli 25 dollari.
Il titolo completo del brano è “Don’t be cruel (to a heart that’s true)”.
Si dice che venne offerto per primo al gruppo dei Four Tunes  che faceva parte della “scuderia” RCA ma essi avrebbero rifiutato di registrarlo.
Quando Elvis ascoltò il disco dimostrativo inciso da Blackwell se ne innamorò letteralmente e decise di inciderlo nell’imminente recording session di luglio.
Le vendite del singolo “Don’t be cruel / Hound dog” furono stimate superiori alle nove milioni di copie.
“Don’t be cruel” fu la prima canzone di Elvis a svettare in tutte le classifiche della nazione (le altre due che riuscirono in quest’impresa furono “Teddy bear”  e “Jailhouse rock”).

STORIA DELLA CANZONE: “Don’t think twice, it’s all right” venne composta da Bob Dylan nel 1963 e fu lui stesso ad inciderla per primo, nel suo 33 giri “The freewheelin’ Bob Dylan”. Alla fine dello stesso anno essa venne appaiata alla famosa “Blowin’ in the wind” che venne poi edita su 45 giri.

Il tutto avvenne negli studi di Sam Phillips a Memphis, dove lo stesso Elvis iniziò la sua carriera e quel 4 dicembre si era fermato per salutare Sam. Capitò nel bel mezzo di una session di Jerry Lee Lewis ed il resto venne da sé.
Esiste un’altra registrazione di questo brano: si tratta del medley con “When the Saints go marching in”, incisa per la colonna sonora del film “Frankie and Johnny” nei Radio Recorders Studios a Hollywood, California.
